Internet TV expands

By Stacy
It looks like DaveTV and the idea of Internet TV might not be a narrow market for long. DaveTV is not the only provider of Internet television. This like all technology just needs to have the time to develop. Networks and cable should take notice that how people watch television is changing. The above chart and following excerpt are from an article on the growth of Internet television:
"DaveTV, which started in January, currently has 100 channels and 10,000 hours of viewable content. It recently launched in Vietnam, a country with a virtually nonexistent cable infrastructure but about 9.2 million Internet users.
Just as cell phones have flourished in poorer countries with very little landline communication, Internet television has similar opportunities.
All people need to watch Internet TV is a broadband connection, a set-top box and a TV. That means there's no need to build a broadcast or cable TV infrastructure.
'Clearly, this represents massive disruption and to resist that trend long term is suicide,' said Joe Olsen, chief executive of SkyStream, which provides video services to more than 300 customers. Norway's Tandberg Television acquired SkyStream for $80 million in early February.
The size of the Internet TV market is hard to gauge — partly because analysts have different ways of defining it. Most refer to the field as IPTV, short for Internet protocol television. It's also been called broadband video on demand."
