NBC offers The Office mini-episodes only online

NBC has decided to create 2 minute web only episodes of The Office that will be offered through NBC.com. I think this will start in the summer. These short episodes will focus on the accounting department of Angela (Angela Kinsey), Oscar (Oscar Nunez) and Kevin (Kevin Baumgartner). This appears to be in response to the heavy web traffic concerning the show.

The following from Television Week:

"The Office has already made its presence known online since becoming one of 12 shows NBC made available in December for downloading via the iTunes Music Store. (Episodes are typically available for downloading the day after their air date.) As of January, the mockumentary had accounted for one-third of all downloads available from the NBC selections. "

Could this be a new way to continue or expand on the stories outside the regular format? Could this turn into a whole new medium of how networks could carry shows? This isn't a new idea, the web only show, but I think it's the first time a show currently on the air has played with this method of delivery.
