Busted for Weeds

Weeds, a great little show from Showtime about a widowed mother of two in suburban California who just happens to sell marijuana for a living, is starting a second season. This Golden Globe nominated series is pretty funny, but more in the drama/comedy kind of way. The pot humor with Kevin Nealon’s character (Doug) and the brother-in-law is a riot, but you really start to care about what is going to happen to Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) and her family. In preparation for the long awaited second season, Showtime has decided to do some international marketing that got them in a little trouble in France.
Lionsgate Entertainment, the show's international distributor, thought it had come up with a clever way to catch the attention of international TV buyers at last week’s MIPTV convention in Cannes. The clever idea: t-shirts and caps featuring marijuana leaves and the tagline: “Weeds -- High on Season 2.”Source:Medialife
French customs officials did not find it clever at all. They raided the company's booth on Monday to confiscate five boxes of apparel, on the grounds that the apparel might encourage drug use. Authorities asked the company to provide a letter saying the garments were not intended to promote the use of drugs, as well as a script of the show and an episode for viewing.
The second season of Weeds is set for a mid July premiere. If you haven't seen the show or want to catch up on what happened, season one is available on iTunes. Being that a lot of people don't have Showtime, iTunes is great for catch Weeds and their other shows. I hope that they carry the second season immediately after it airs and not until the season finishes. If you know the show then you know why its fans are waiting; the season one DEA date cliffhanger is killing me.
