Emmy Eyes 'Non-Traditional' TV

By Sherri

The credibility of shows made specifically for "non-traditional viewing platforms" just got a little higher thanks to today's announcement from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
The organization that gives out the Emmy Awards listed off six nominees for its first ever non-traditional platform award. The shows chosen had to be made specifically for a platform such as computers, cell phones, iPods and so on.
The nominees for the award are 24: Conspiracy, It's Jerrytme!, Live8 on AOL, Sophie Chase, mtvU Stand In and Stranger Adventures "Helen Beaumont."
In total, 74 entries were reviewed by the academy with the six nominees rising to the top. This is great news for the genre and future programming.
The response to this new Emmy Award has been phenomenal," said Peter Price, President/CEO of the National Television Academy. "In a little more than two months time from our call for entries to the deadline, 74 entries were submitted - more than any other Emmy Award category. These represent a broad cross section of what is being done in the broadband arena, and the six nominees display outstanding use of the media, including multiple feeds, interactivity and cross-media approaches as well as entertaining video content."
Daytime Emmy Awards
The winner will be announced during the 33rd annual Creative Arts Daytime Emmy Awards April 22. With a little luck the field will be even bigger and better next year!

It seems like the credibility hasn't gone up at all... Sophie Chase doesn't look like it's come out with any episodes yet, only a teaser clip. This is ridiculous...
Hi Ms. Kitka,
I looked into this and you are absolutely right. I've contacted the folks behind Sophie Chase in an effort to find out when they'll start releasing episodes.
Odd. Very odd.
