CBS Throws an Innertube

By Stacy

CBS has just started their new broadband video site Innertube. Right now Innertube has one original program(Greek to Chic, more about that later), lots of behind the scenes and commercials that used to be at their main page, and the amazing 45 min rebroadcast of Pearl Jam's mini-concert on David Letterman. Even though it isn't much of a start the Pearl Jam show makes it a great start. This is a completely ad-supported channel. What excites me is the claim to use this as a new outlet for different types of programs.
"Creatively, we want this platform to be a content playground where new talent and ideas are discovered, and proven talent can bring their passion projects, whether complementary or different to what's on the Network," Nancy Tellem, president of CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group, said in a statement.
They also seem willing to use it for those shows that might be cancelled and instead get to finish their run on Innertube or perhaps even live again.
"It will also become an alternative programming option for series broadcast on the network that didn't reach a mass audience, but have a loyal, passionate following that lends itself to Internet appeal

I checked it out and it looked pretty good in the small screen and only a little blurry in full screen. My main compliment goes to CBS even allowing me to see this stream. I'm on the road in Costa Rica for work and usually when I travel I get the annoying US only screen. I don't know if this is only during the test or if it will be permanent. I have a feeling when they begin the rebroadcasting their regular shows, which they promise will be soon, it won't work. But if it does, great move CBS because the block is ridiculous and only encourages piracy. Everything they have said and done so far looks good. I only hope they follow through. By the way innertube.com is a tire salesman, so follow the link.
