MoboVivo
Canada's MoboVivo has made its way to the download marketplace, taking a different approach than other similar services. And while one might think the company's CEO would be shouting the news from the rooftops, MoboVivo's head, Trevor Doerksen, is taking a more reserved approach.

The official "soft launch" came last week and Doerksen explained MoboVivo intends to use the time to build content, get input from viewers and work to make the service the best it can be before a major marketing campaign is rolled out.

(There was) no champagne over it," Doerksen explained as he took some time out to discuss the company and its future plans with TeevBlogger. "We’ll be sleepy all summer (with) no real marketing," Doerksen said.

The real push will come later. The reason for this: "We want to be careful. We don’t want to get branded with one channel, one genre."

Although it offers a wide selection of content ranging from TV programs to documentaries in much the same manner as an iTunes-type service, MoboVivo isn't the same. A few things set the company apart including the fact it's open for worldwide use.

Doerksen explained MoboVivo started out on the grassroots level to be a "Canadian company that wants to help other Canadian companies and consumers." And while that mission remains steadfast, he said, the service has taken on a distinctly worldwide tone. The reason for this is the fact MoboVivo has gained worldwide rights to distribute most of the content it has. With only a few exceptions, programming can be downloaded from anywhere in the world.

When asked how MoboVivo managed to obtain these rights, Doerksen simply said the company asked for them.

Much of MoboVivo's current content is Canadian with shows ranging from comedy to documentaries. Doerksen said a lot more is expected to come in the near future. "We’re still negotiating on the big stuff."
