MTV Creates Mobile Animated Series

By Stacy

MTV Networks International has decided to create what may be the first made-for-mobile animated shorts series. The series is a co-production between MTV and the Danish comic strip writing team, Wulffmorgenthaler. Wulffmorgenthaler is made up of the comic strip writing duo of Mikael Wulff and Anders Morgenthaler. This is the first time they have created an animated series. The series is schedule to be twenty installments and will be offered on MTV“s mobile channels and downloads in Europe, Australia and the US. The series will be available in French, German, Italian, Spanish and English from the country specific MTV site. The animated series will be exclusive to the mobile platform for About eight weeks and then be available on MTV Overdrive
According to the Interactive TV newsletter, MTV sees the mobile platform as a great way to connect to its intended audience. The article gives details of the MTV/Wulffmorgenthaler plan:
"Entertainment on mobiles should work as a quick shot of adrenaline--something creative and fun which can be enjoyed and used while on the move," Wulff and Morgenthaler said in a prepared statement. "Mobile handsets are the smallest stage for entertainment imaginable; it has to work in a very basic manner. There is no space for anything but the important stuff--the good idea. It's exciting to be working with MTVNI on the animations and we value the experience they have in the digital space." MTVNI currently operates 20 mobile TV channels in 19 countries: 13 of those channels are MTV-branded; four are Nickelodeon-branded; and the three others are Paramount Comedy, Game One and VIVA.
