‘The 9’ Brings Vlogging To Yahoo

By Sherri

Internet viewing junkies looking for a fix following the recent departure of Amanda Congdon from "Rocketboom" have a new place to turn thanks to Yahoo's "The 9."
Starring Maria Sansone, the Pepsi-sponsored weekday morning program on Yahoo, features a listing of nine items found on the web, thus the name. Quirky, quick and humorous, the show, so far, has some neat entries.
Today's featured pieces, for example, included an entry from Boing Boing about an unusual video that has women learning English while working out.
"The 9" is not as in-depth or informative as "Rocketboom," but it is different, and it allows some viewer participation. Fans are invited to submit ideas for the daily show.
The show's very much a fast-paced, quick hit for internet viewers who want to see what the big buzz of the day is without having to hunt all over the web for it.
The launch of "The 9" comes after Yahoo announced it didn't want to bring original video content to the site. It seems Yahoo Media Group's Lloyd Braun got his way and this show looks like it just might be a winner.
As for "Rocketboom," it seems there's some speculation that it will soon go back into production with Joanna Colan, a former MTV Europe VJ, in the anchor chair. In the meantime, the show's Andrew Baron is explaining his side of the Congdon departure story. Congdon has also given her side of the story.
It's being reported Congdon has signed with the Endeavor Agency and also has received some pretty big offers, giving her fans hope to see her again real soon.
No matter how the "Rocketboom" situation turns out, it seems those who love quick-hit, quirky online news programs have a place to go thanks to "The 9."

I actually enjoyed the episodes of The 9 I watched today. It is awfully vacuous, kind of like the MTV of vlogs, but I found myself strangely attracted. It's probably the host.
I think Rocketboom will succeed: I had dinner with Andrew Baron over the weekend and the man has a vision. Go RB!
