FOX Streams Primetime Shows: "Bones" and "Prison Break"

By Heather Long
FOX is jumping on the streaming bandwagon and is currently offering episodes from the first season of series shows such as "Bones" and "Prison Break." MAC users may have trouble accessing the site at MyFox. PC users with Firefox may have to rely on Internet Explorer instead. One of the first networks to provide such a service, Fox is using their local stations as the distributors of their primetime content. A trial phase launched this last week in nine separate owned and operated Fox stations including those in Washington, D.C., New York and Los Angeles to test reception and interest.
Currently, it appears to only be a few episodes and not the entire season. The goal is to entice potential viewers to check out the shows via streaming and potentially interest them in purchasing the season sets on DVD. Sponsored exclusively by Toyota, there will be 10 second ads incorporated into the streaming.
According to business reports, Fox is also experimenting with various options that including ad-free streaming as well. Access may require an Active X download and the streaming video and software are geo-coded and will not allow access to viewers outside the dedicated regions.
