CBS Nabs 30 Million Hits On YouTube

It seems the commercialization of YouTube is paying off for some folks. CBS has nabbed almost 30 million hits on its videos posted to the site since its deal with YouTube began a little over a month ago.According to an official CBS release, the network has put more than 300 clips on the site and is averaging about 857,000 views a day. CBS also holds three of the Top 25 most videos viewed this month.
Clips on the site include those from “NCIS,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” and “The Early Show.”
"Above all the other good news, what's most exciting here is the extent to which CBS is learning about its audience as never before," said Quincy Smith, President, CBS Interactive. "YouTube users are clearly being entertained by the CBS programming they're watching as evidenced by the sheer number of video views. Professional content seeds YouTube and allows an open dialogue between established media players and a new set of viewers. We believe this inflection point is the precursor to many exciting developments as we continue to build bridges rather than construct walls."
Some of the top CBS clips on YouTube include the “NCIS/Cat Fight,” “Borat Meets David Letterman” and “Borat Vs. Harry Smith” on the “Early Show.”
So, what does this all mean?
It could just mean CBS is incredibly good at picking clips to put on YouTube, or it might just mean users are taking to the commercialization better than many (myself included) expected. Either way, it doesn’t look like YouTube’s hurting for hits.
