‘Buffy’ Writer’s ‘Battlestar’ Flies Tonight

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s” Jane Espenson will have her “Battlestar Galactica” debut this Friday when her episode “The Passage” airs.Espenson is famous for such episodes of “Buffy” as “End of Days” and “Conversations With Dead People.” She’s also garnered a lot of attention writing for “Gilmore Girls” and a few others.
Her first “Battlestar” episode is titled “The Passage,” and it’s reportedly the lead in for next week’s cliffhanger.
As for her propensity to add a comedic touch to almost any script, Espenson is promising fans that won’t be the case here.
"Now, remember that the story was handed to me and it's possible that the themes of the story weren't a great match with a very comedic approach," she said. "I learned this lesson with the first draft of the 'Buffy' episode 'Gingerbread' in which I included too many jokes about dead children. At that time, I was going on the principle that anything can be punched up. It turned out this wasn't true. So now I approach darker subjects with more restraint and fewer 'knock-knock' jokes."
For those concerned she won’t know how to treat “Battlestar’s” well-defined characters, think again. “In terms of writing for these characters, I was just so thrilled sitting at the keyboard, thinking, 'I'm writing Starbuck now! Right now! Starbuck! Oh, and now I'm writing Kat! Whoo!'" Epsenson said.
“Battlestar” airs on the Sci Fi channel and can be found on iTunes and a few other download locations, as well.

I've heard that, as well. I can't wait for the graphic novels to come out! So many unanswered questions.
