iTunes Gripe

By Sherri
As my “Battlestar Galactica” addiction becomes more entrenched I’ve entered into a love/hate relationship with iTunes. Here’s what I love out the download site
The latest rendition of the iTunes store is very easy to navigate in relation to finding shows and episodes. It’s been an absolute breeze to find exactly what I needed to see to pick up where my borrowed season two DVDs left off. With only two episodes left to go to catch up before Sunday’s return of the show, I’ve had no trouble accessing, downloading or enjoying the purchased videos. The quality on my Gateway laptop was even better than expected.
Here’s what I hate
Navigating the user information can be a little tricky. Trying to sift through the main page to find out exactly where to plug in gift card information isn’t easy for a first-time card user.
Also, the site locks you into to the buying style you started on for episodes. For example, three episodes in to season three, I decided to buy the entire season and watch it on iTunes rather than compete with my husband’s Xbox 360 for the big screen TV in the living room. What I found was that once you start buying by the episode, those purchases won’t transfer over to a full season buy. Essentially if you switch modes half way through, you either have to pay for the episodes again in the season price or just keep downloading singles.
Granted, it’s not Apple’s fault I changed my mind, but still I expected the site to be a little more user friendly than it was. On the upside, it did register a warning that episodes had already been purchased.
But, it will still be Apple’s loss and not mine. One more episode to go and I can watch the last catch-up one via SciFi.com and then switch over to watching the show on the network and save myself a little cash and still come in at less than the full season price.
Despite the pricing issue, I’d have to say the overall iTunes experience has been fantastic. I achieved what I set out to do and will be fully caught up in time for the show’s return.
