What happens when ordinary people discover they possess pointless abilities?
It looks like the marketing folks at NBC wanted to find out. Thus, “Zeroes” was born. The “Heroes” spoof on YouTube features more than a single belly chuckle as the “Zeroes” show off their abilities.
They can’t fly, teleport or even become invisible. These “Zeroes,” nonetheless, have amazingly odd abilities. One can kick the back of his own head. Another can touch her tongue to her nose. There’s even a woman with “bendy” abilities.
The 2-minute creation was ordered by NBC and created by Vince Manze, TVSquad reports. The writer over there is wondering if it’s “sneaky or is it creative marketing?”
I have to chime in with brilliant marketing. If you can’t spoof your own show, where’s the fun in life?
Who would have thought a show that pokes fun at how ignorant adults can be would turn into a runaway hit? Evidently, the execs at FOX did.
The new Jeff Foxworthy vehicle - “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?” - has taken off like a rocket. The show broke the FOX record for having the highest-rated series premiere in a whopping 13 years and it’s not showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Considering its popularity, FOX has announced it will air an additional four episodes of the show beyond those set to air March 15 and March 22. The new dates are March 29, April 5, April 12 and April 19. This breaks down to Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST.
The show has Foxworthy leading an unusual game show that measures “adults’ lack of knowledge – as revealed by how much they’ve forgotten since grammar school.” Adults contestants answer grammar school questions about art, geography, math and more with a little help from actual grade-schoolers.
Clips of the show are available on FOX’s web site, but full episodes are not. It’s possible they’ll make their way to iTunes soon.
The comedy pilot “Gay Robot” is drawing major attention on MySpace. A recent release of never-aired-footage from the pilot has received more than 300,000 views to date, putting the video on the top of the MySpace list. Gay Robot’s MySpace page features a collection of clips, stills and more information about the show, which is based on the early works of Adam Sandler. Set at Alpha Tau Kappa (ATK) fraternity on the Central Illinois University campus, Gay Robot follows the story of a frat boy looking for love.
‘Gay Robot’ has amassed more than 22,000 friends and has had more than a million hits on its page. The show is a Happy Madison production and was created in association with Central Production and Sony Pictures Television.
A full copy of the pilot is available for free on BitTorrent.
David Spade fans who haven’t had a chance to check out his latest entry in the comedy world don’t have to wait for the show's regular airtime on CBS.
“Rules of Engagement” episodes can be found on CBS.com via Innertube. The comedy also stars Oliver Hudson, Bianca Kajilich, Megan Price and Patrick Warburton. Spade plays the odd man out in a group of couples who are struggling with the daily trials of relationships.
While the show airs normally on Mondays at 9:30 EST, the catch up episodes are available in streaming format at any time.
The next new episode is set to air March 12.
CBS is continuing to shine in the online arena thanks to its many offerings on Innertube. By putting these shows on the Internet like it is, it's making it easier for new fans to get hooked on such shows as "Rules," "Jericho" and more on their own schedules.
Shakira fans looking for more information about the international star only have to turn to MTV.com. The site has rolled out the first of three exclusive webisodes featuring Shakira during her “Oral Fixation Tour.”
The webisodes, which feature footage that can only be seen on MTV.com, follows up the Dirty Little Secrets contest that had one fan globetrotting along with Shakira in 2006. The first webisode features contest winner Rachel Newhouse, a behind-the-scenes look at the tour and a performance of “Hips Don’t Lie.”
The first webisode is up and running right now on MTV.com. The others are soon to follow.
While I’m not a big Shakira fan, I have to admit this is a great way to engage fans beyond the normal means.
Fans of NBC’s “Heroes” were given a brief sneak peek of the action to come when “Spider-Man 3” arrives in theaters this May, but there’s more to see online right now.
An extended high-definition clip of the Sony-backed Marvel creation is up and running for a brief time on NBC.com. The action won’t remain online long, however. It seems NBC’s only going to be running the trailer until 9 p.m. EST March 6.
The download’s a big one, coming in at 285 MB for those who want to watch it in 720p, but it’s worth the time it takes. Catch it now before it’s gone. The clock's ticking!
We reported on this when it was announced, but the tight time schedule wasn't evident then. It is now, so if getting a look at what's to come sounds good, do it fast.
“Spider-Man 3” webs its way into theaters May 5. It once again stars Tobey Maguire in the lead role of the spider that almost everyone loves.
If you missed Saturday night’s big UFC fight between Randy Couture and Tim Sylvia, you missed a lot.
The Natural not only regained his title belt, he looked great doing it. Who would have thought an “old guy” could win against a “kid” that was inches taller and pounds and pounds heavier. Coming in at 6 feet, 8 inches in height, Tim Sylvia is no push over, but 6-foot, 2-inch Couture schooled him in five solid rounds, winning by unanimous decision.
All the action of the UFC is available online on the UFC’s official site. The UFC offers live pay-per-view on demand on fight nights, replays after the fact and even specialty clips of individual fights. The pay-per-view, streaming option will set you back about $40 for full events, but the clips fall in at a comfortable $1.99. The full show from Saturday, which also featured Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes isn't up just yet, but it looks like clips and the full replay will be soon.
Offering mixed martial arts that’s fun to watch with competitors that are generally more gracious than boisterous, UFC action is worth checking out – online or not.
Sony Pictures Television is touting the upcoming debut of “Blood +,” a new anime series based on “Blood: The Last Vampire.”
The series, set to premiere March 10 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, takes place in modern day Okinawa. The show continues the story made famous in the full-length anime film.
It picks up with Saya Otonashi living a blissful life with an adoptive family, not remembering the past at all. She’s quite the happy high schooler, until a “chiropteran" attacks her and her brother. With old memories triggered, Saya realizes she is the only one who can beat the blood-sucking menace once and for all. With help from family and friends, she sets out to do just that, accepting her role as champion.
While the show will not initially air online, it does give one pause for how long that will remain the case. Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has some of the most popular entries on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Sony’s expected to launch a video service for its PlayStation 3. This, of course, isn't precluding Adult Swim's own site, which offers some great online viewing action.
Will the show make it to the online realm? And, if so, will Sony hold it out to become one of its anchor shows on its own network?
It will be interesting to see.
In the meantime, anime fans can tune in on March 10 at 12:30 a.m. EST to check out the “Blood” continuation.
“Heroes” fans trying to figure out all the connections between characters as NBC’s hit drama races to its season one close are finding that’s fast becoming difficult.
Fortunately, there’s a crafty site out there that's has made it a little easier. The Heroes Relation Map v.01 on Heroes Revealed draws the lines between all the characters to date, heroes or not, and whether their paths have crossed during the show so far.
While the map won’t help unravel the big mysteries behind the show, it is a pretty interesting creation to behold. It clearly shows just how complicated the storyline has become.
If only it would answer the burning questions: Who is Linderman? What’s up with Hiro’s dad? And, can anyone really stop Skylar?
No such luck, but the map’s worth a look.
“Heroes” airs Monday nights on NBC. Catch-up episodes can be found on NBC.com and in other locations such as iTunes.
